| We are committed to ensuring that our products and
manufacturing processes have as little negative impact on the environment as possible.
| In particular we are:
| Saving energy |
Our modern curing chambers conserve energy by
using the natural heat given off by the exothermic reaction between cement and water.
They've been so successful that we have reduced our carbon dioxide emissions by 44.5% since they were installed. |
| Recycling materials |
The unique medium density 'Lignacite' block uses
graded wood particles, a selected waste wood product from the timber industry,
as an aggregate.
The Ashlite block contains more than 50% of waste material and is compliant with the
BREEAM standard. |
| We also use recycled glass as a subsititute for stone in our Lignacrete blocks. |
| Our Premier range of facing masonry helps to reduce waste in the environment. The mix contains china clay sand - a by-product of the china clay industry. This mix is also used to make the unique RoofBLOCK. |
| Saving water |
| All the water that we use for manufacturing at our plant in Brandon comes from our own borehole, so we don't place any strain on the local mains water system. |
| Not only that, we also recycle all the water used to process our products, which is up to 6000 gallons an hour. |
| Using local resources
We use sand and gravel from our own quarry in Brandon. Over eight years, this will save the equivalent of 36,000 lorries delivering to the plant.
